Melodie Kay Cross

Melodie Kay (Grevenstuk) Cross, born October 5,1942 in DeMott Indiana. The first of five children for Gerrit and Kathryn Grevenstuk. Raised on arduous work, appreciation of family and in faith from the Church just across the road from the family farm and business.

After high school Melodie attended Hope College in Holland Michigan. Building on the business experience gained from helping her father with his, she focused her education on both clerical and book keeping fields. She used all of this acquired knowledge throughout her entire life, working in a legal office, with an insurance company and in a doctor’s office as well as her own endeavors, including ceramics classes that she taught in the basement at home and running a Montgomery Ward catalog and appliance store on main street in Charlotte Michigan.

During her time at Hope Melodie met the man of her dreams. She was married in the spring of 1963 to Clifford Robert Cross, born January 28,1942, the first son of Clifford and Victoria Cross from Queens New York. With her intelligence, creativity, and faith she built a solid foundation for her growing family. Clifford and Melodie raised three children during their 60 years together.

Melodies’ kindness and loyalty touched those who loved her and were loved by her.

Through her strength and determination, she enjoyed a long and happy life with Clifford. Her positive attitude and perseverance kept her with us longer than many who have been lost to the relentless disease that in the evening hours of Christmas 2022 relieved her of her mortal coil, putting her genuine and beautiful soul at peace to glide gracefully into the heavens where Melodie will reunite with her only son, Keith Clifford Cross (1969-2020) and with her loving smile, shall watch over those she holds dearest in her heart.

This "Christmas Angel" is survived by her sister Elaine Marie (Grevenstuk) Ross. Her brothers, David Richard Grevenstuk, George Gerrit Grevenstuk and Jeffrey Andrew Grevenstuk. Her adoring husband Clifford Robert Cross of Venice Florida. Her loving daughters; Kathryn Victoria (Cross) Nickandros and Karen Elaine Cross-Dupree. Her grandchildren; Alexa Victoria Nickandros and Joshua William Nickandros. Jay Gerrit Dupree and Ashlynn Melodie Dupree. Her great grandchildren; Ava Lynn Dupree. Lyilah Kay-Marie Johnson, ArVonte Michael-Carter Johnson and Sophia-Violet KarenLee Johnson.
