Roger Coleman (55), loving father, husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend, left this world too soon on January 10, 2022 following a short, yet courageous battle with cancer. Roger was born on September 9, 1966 in Peoria, Illinois to parents Norman and Nancy Coleman. He was the baby of the family, joining his three older brothers and sister. Roger grew up in Flushing, Michigan and lived much of his life in the area.
Roger was a hard-worker and lived his life to the extreme; always seeking an adventure! As a youth, he could be found jumping bikes off home-made ramps Evel Knievel-style. For a time, he was a white-water rapids tour guide, where he was probably the first (and maybe only) to do tricks with a stand-up Jet Ski on the rapids. His love of mud running, led him to personally retrofit his iconic Jeep Wrangler with a LT-1 Corvette engine and won him several awards! Roger had many talents: mechanic, bow hunter, and botanist. Roger worked most of his life in construction, taking pride in being a heavy machine operator. He could often be found tinkering with his many toys.
Roger was tough as nails, but also had a tender heart. He was a loving father to his son, Beau Hunter Coleman. The two were often inseparable, working on cars and trucks, doing stunts, playing with their dogs, and traveling to Roger’s favorite place in the world, Alaska. A devoted family man, Roger loved his son with every fiber of his being and cared deeply for his nephews and niece, passing on life lessons and always “busting their chops”. Roger was a devoted son and lovingly cared for his mother, Nancy for many years. He had many lifelong friendships and was always willing to help a friend in need. A dog lover, he cared for many in his lifetime, always showering them with love as he did all around him.
Roger married the love of his life, his soulmate, Rong Zhou in 2021. Roger never thought he would find love again and believed his mother sent Rong from above. The couple recently moved to Englewood, Florida to be closer to family. Together they enjoyed the sunshine, numerous breakfasts with family, and sunsets at the beach. Rong loved and cared for him through his illness and faithfully stayed by his side until the end. Always a fighter, Roger hung on to life for as long as he could and was surrounded by family in his final moments. Roger will be deeply missed. He will be remembered for his strength, his love, that smile and his kindness.
Roger is survived by his father, Norman (Gail) Coleman Sr.; his wife, Rong Zhou-Coleman; his son, Beau Hunter Coleman; his brothers, Ronald (Cindy), Norman II (Crystal) and Robert (Kathy) Coleman; his sister, Kathleen Coleman; his nephews, Paul (Lori Ann), Nicholas (Megan), Grant (Deborah) and Kristopher (Jamie) Coleman; his niece, Ciara (Steve) Barclay-Buchanan; and many great nephews and nieces; his beloved dog (Bear); and a great number of lifelong friends. (Shwerg)
He was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Coleman; his grandmothers, Olive Love and Ona Boyle; and his grandfathers, Robert Love and Muriel Boyle.
