

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Tom Plaskett, our loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Thomas Stanley Plaskett passed away peacefully on November 30, 2024 at the age of 91 in Venice, Florida.
Tom was born on December 29, 1932, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 64 years Connie Plaskett (nee McEwen) and his mother and father Kathleen and Gordon Plaskett. Tom is survived by his three children Susan, Duncan, and Douglas and his four grandchildren Nicholas, Natalie, Rachel, and Christina. He is also survived by his son-in-law Vassilis and his daughters-in-law Denise and Stephanie.
Tom graduated from Lawrence Park Collegiate High School and later graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. Tom continued his studies earning a Master’s degree and PhD in Metallurgy.
Upon graduation and after working a few years for a mining company in Ontario, Canada in 1960, he married his wife Connie and moved to Ottawa. In 1962, he received a job offer from IBM and moved to Ossining, New York and later to Katonah, New York in 1971. He worked for IBM at their research center for 31 years. During his years in Katonah, he enjoyed playing golf in the IBM company golf league, playing “shinny” hockey at the local ice rink, coaching baseball, and cheering on his sons in their athletic endeavors. Tom also loved his 18-foot Sea Ray boat and enjoyed taking his family on boat trips all over the northeast United States and Canada.
Tom will be remembered for all the things he enjoyed in retirement such as serving his church community, volunteering with Wheels on Meals, birding, and enjoying time with his kids and grandkids. He also traveled extensively during his lifetime to Europe, Japan, Hawaii, Central America, and all over the United States and Canada.
A graveside service and celebration of life will take place in August of 2025 at Sanctuary Park Cemetery in Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada.
