

Virginia Claire Culbertson (Calvin), affectionately known as Ginny, Gigi, and Tootsie, age 87, of Englewood and Dunedin, Florida, peacefully passed away at home on Thursday, March 20, 2025. How is it possible a heart that poured out so much love to family, friends, and others over the years could finally give out? Ginny was born in Nashville, Tennessee to Edward and Lillian Calvin.In 1948, the family relocated to Clearwater, Florida. She attended Clearwater High School, where she excelled as a cheerleader and tennis player and was crowned Homecoming Queen for the Class of 1955. Ginny married the love of her life, Thomas Culbertson, and together they raised their blended family of "yours, mine, and ours”. Ginny, along with Tom, played a significant role in Pinellas County youth football in the 1970’s. Together, they established Christian Youth Sports, where Ginny served as the Director of Cheerleaders for the Florida Jr. Gators. Later, in the 1990’s, Ginny co-founded Reach the Children Ministries alongside her husband, where she took on the
role of children’s pastor. Together they focused their ministry efforts primarily within the migrant communities in and around Plant City and Wimauma, FL. until Tom passed away in 2001. Ginny loved Jesus and was passionate about sharing God’s love with everyone she met. She also loved shopping for treasures at thrift stores, making any kind of craft, and enjoying the beaches of the gulf coast. She is survived by her children Karen Blackford (Peter), Kimberly Madonia (Mark), Kelly Mitchell, and Christopher Culbertson (Amy). Ginny leaves behind 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren who all were the joy of her life.Ginny is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas, and their sons Thomas and Michael. Although Ginny loved flowers, she loved helping people more. The family is requesting in lieu of flowers please commit a random act of kindness to someone who needs it today. A private family service will be held to celebrate Ginny’s life. The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers at this time.
