It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Amber Danielle Skall. With her parents and the loving CMH 6th floor nursing staff by her side, Amber passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer. Her courage, sense of humor and strong spirit never wavered despite the challenges she faced.
Amber was born on August 31, 1982 in Ventura. She attended Pierpont Elementary School, Anacapa Middle School and Buena High School. Amber played on the Water Polo and Swim Teams in high school, and had a life long love of the ocean.
She attended California State University at Monterey Bay, where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Earth Systems Science and Policy.
Amber worked for a time at Costco before beginning her career with the Ventura Police Department as a 911 Public Safety Dispatcher. She also served as a Tactical Dispatcher for the VPD SWAT Team. She was so very proud to be a member of the department, and to serve her community.
Amber had three dogs whom she talked about often and loved deeply - Koa, Maui and Stanley.
Amber will be greatly missed by her parents, Karen and Mike Skall, brother Danny Skall, nephew and niece Daniel and Melanie, grandfather Art Cox, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends. She will be with us in our hearts forever.
During the course of her illness, Amber was fortunate to be surrounded by so many supportive, kind, skilled and humorous people - the wonderful CMH 6th floor nursing staff and technicians, the CMH Palliative Care team, Doctors, Chaplains, Transport personnel, Food Service personnel, Infusion Center Staff, - the list is long. While in the hospital, she was comforted by the visits from the hospital therapy dogs and their handlers. So many people treated her as their own daughter or sister. Friends and relatives that visited, cared for her, helped transport her to treatments, brought food or simply offered kind words - we can never thank everyone enough.
In a final act of kindness, and in accordance with her wishes, her corneas were donated so that another may benefit.
A Celebration of Amber's life will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at 11:30 am at the Poinsettia Pavilion, 3451 Foothill Road in Ventura, CA
