

Angel A. Alamillo, Jr., 61, of Ventura, passed away on Monday, January 5, 2015. He was born on April 30, 1953, in San Fernando to Angel, Sr. and Elydia (Avila) Alamillo. The family moved to Saticoy in 1959 when Angel was six years old and has been a Ventura County resident ever since.
Angel attended St. Sebastian School from 1st to 8th grade before entering St. Bonaventure High School, graduating in 1971. He had a passion and a love for baseball, “Throughout my life, baseball has been a major facet, as my faith in our Lord being my guiding light.” At St. Bonaventure, he played JV Baseball as a freshman and in his sophomore year, Coach Bill Little brought him up to Varsity. His junior year, Angel played stellar defense recording no errors as the Seraphs won the only CIF Baseball title in school and City of Ventura history. Angel was named to the All-TVL team. In his senior year, he again was named All-TVL and added an All-CIF award to his laurels. The Seraphs captured the TVL championship that year.
Angel continued his education at Ventura College, played baseball the next two seasons and the Pirates were league champions his freshman year. His sophomore year, he was voted All-League and also, MVP of the team. Angel then moved onto play baseball at St. Mary’s College playing in the WCAC. He was voted team captain and received the Golden Glove Award for the team. From, the late 1970’s until 1987, Angel came back to coach Varsity Baseball at St. Bonaventure. His teams made the CIF-SS playoffs every season except for his first one and winning two TVL Championships in 1984 and 1985. Angel went on to become an Assistant Coach at Ventura College from the late 1990’s until 2010 and they were twice conference champions.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Elydia Alamillo and his brother, Thomas “Tommy” Alamillo. Angel is survived by his father and stepmother, Angel, Sr. and Yolanda Alamillo; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sandra and John Cesario, Dolores and Rudy Frias and Susana and Frank Lance; sister, Sabrina Leal; and six nieces and three nephews.
Recitation of the rosary will be held on Monday, January 12, 2015, 7:00 pm, at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at Sacred Heart Church, 10800 Henderson Road, Ventura, with The Reverend Bill Bolton officiating. Burial will follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Valentine Road, Ventura.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home.
