

Arthur L. Dorado passed peacefully into the gateways of Heaven early Thursday evening, April 7, 2011. Arthur was born in Ventura, on July 7, 1940. He was the first son to Manuel and Rose Dorado. He has five sisters and one brother. Growing up his family was very active in the community. Art was always a top scholar who grew up playing many sports and was in the marching band. He was very popular in sports, with his father there as his number one supporter. At age 14, he started his first job at Dominick’s Pizza in Oxnard. There he was developed the moniker “the pizza king”, a legend.
In 1959, he attended Arizona State University and later finished his schooling in Santa Monica. He went to work for GTE (General Telephone and Electronics Corporation) in 1973, which was known at the time as one of the largest independent U.S. telephone companies during the days of Bell Systems. At GTE Art was a well known Contracting Engineer who spent 25 years with the company. He settled in Thousand Oaks for more than 20 years after traveling from Santa Monica to Fresno and even spent some time in Jamaica for his Engineering Career. Arthur retired from GTE in January 1999.
With a great dedication to the Catholic Church, Art spent much of his life at Saint Paschal Baylon in Thousand Oaks. He was a faithful member of the Men’s Club and eventually became president. Golfing was his passion. He helped with annual Golf Tournaments through the men’s club and was involved with the Senior PGA tour for years. His favorite Golf Course, El Dorado Country Club is a pristine course that Arthur always talked about which is located in Los Cabos, Mexico.
He was a very proud family man and was generous in support and took pride in tradition. He counted his children and grandchildren as his greatest gifts and blessings to his life.
Arthur is survived by his children, Deena Dorado Clevenger (daughter), Gary Clevenger (son in law), Marie Dorado (daughter), Anthony Dorado (son), Grandchildren Tanner Clevenger, Troy Clevenger and Sydney Clevenger. Siblings are: MaryEllen Vasquez, Rosalie Estrada, Christine Martinez, Cecilia Pedilla, Richard Dorado and Pauline Cadena.
Arthur was preceded in death by his beloved son Louie Dorado and Parents Manuel and Rose Dorado.
A special thanks for your love and attention to Arthur’s sister, Christine Martinez. In 1997, she donated her kidney in support to Arthur’s Diabetes. She has also been his caregiver lovingly for the past 3 years.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Walter and the kind and caring staff in the Critical Care Unit at St. Johns Hospital in Oxnard.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 13, 2011, from 4:00 P.M to 8:00 P.M., with the recitation of the rosary beginning at 7:00 P.M. at Ted Mayr Funeral Home 3150 Loma Vista Rd. Ventura. Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Assumption Church, 3175 Telegraph Rd. Ventura, 11:00 A.M., Thursday, April 14, 2011, followed by a Celebration of Life at Poinsettia Pavilion, 3451 Foothill Rd., Ventura, at 12:30 P.M.
