

Blanche Parker Viles, 88, of Ventura, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 25, 2013. Blanche was born on July 5, 1924, in Alco, Vernon Parish, Louisiana, to Arthur DeKalb Langston and Blanche Parker Langston. Named for her mother, she was raised in Monroe, LA., daughter of a Baptist minister.
In her notes Blanche writes, "I knew Christ as soon as I could talk". "My father baptized me in a bayou when I was nine”. Finishing high school, she enrolled in a business school and was employed as a bookkeeper for Delta Airlines Crop Dusting Division.
When her sister, Mary Lou, became ill, her five boys moved into the Langston family home. Blanche raised and provided for them. They adored her and she them.
Blanche’s brother, Earl married Sue Scott who lived in Ventura. They encouraged Blanche to move from Monroe and live with Sue's family. They went to a square dance where she met B. Frank Viles. One year later Frank and Blanche were married on November 20, 1958, and had thirty-six wonderful years together.
They loved to dance, attending the Elk's Friday night dances each week and continued with that tradition when they moved to Springfield, Mo for a few years. They made many trips through the Ozarks on their way to see her mother in Monroe. They also loved to fish.
Blanche worked for Jacobs & Jacobs, Accountants and then spent 15 years with the Ventura County Tax Collectors Office from which she retired. She was active in the First Baptist Church on Mills Road belonging to the Susan Harding Circle and Dunamites Sunday School group. She also belonged to the Ventura County Retiree's Group.
Frank passed away on September 19, 1994, in Ventura. They had no children.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brothers A.D. Jr., Joe and Earl, his wife Sue (Scott) and their son Brad Langston; her sister Mary Lou Mears; nephews, W. Norvall Mears and Donald E. Mears; niece Tracy Viles Bride.
Surviving are her nephews and nieces, Raymond Mears (Charlotte) of Calhoun, LA, Robert Mears (Diane) of Downsville, LA., H. E. "Gene" Mears, of Calhoun, LA.; Lori Langston, Cindy Langston, Frances (Norvall) Mears of Conroe, TX., Norma (Don) Mears of Virginia Beach, VA., Robert Viles, Jeff Viles, Andy Viles and Marilynn Viles, all of Ventura, Brenda Worley (Dick), Teri Moore (Mike), of Huntington Beach and Phil Worley of Long Beach, as well as many great-great nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be Friday, July 5th (her 89th birthday) 2:00 p.m. at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Valentine Road with Pastor John Gennaro officiating.
