

Charlie attended Ventura High School, Ventura Junior College, and earned a scholarship to Marquette University Wisconsin. He was then drafted by the US Army and upon his discharge in 1955, he continued his education at University of California Santa Barbara, where he met his wife and was awarded his degree in education. He then attended San Diego State University to earn his teaching credential.
In 1958 he became teacher and basketball coach at Oxnard High School. He then transferred to Camarillo High School as head boys’ basketball coach for five years. In1965, he returned to Oxnard High School as head boys’ basketball coach and history teacher. During his teaching career, with a successful basketball record under his belt, he became assistant men’s basketball coach under Jim Whalen at Ventura Junior College for two years. He then became the head women’s basketball coach at Ventura Junior College with a win/loss record of 138-55. His love of basketball continued after retirement when he volunteered to work with the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students basketball program at Sacred Heart School.
Charlie was preceded in death by his mother, Lucille Dunn, brother George, and daughter Elizabeth (Beth) Dunn. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Margaret Walley Dunn, and their four children; Brian C Dunn, Catherine (Cathy) T Dunn, Leslie S Kadillak, and David W Dunn.; daughter-in-law Rosemary Dunn; grandchildren Breanne, Kristen, Hannah, Brian Jr; Charlie, Molly; sister-in-law Julia Dunn and brother-in-law, David Walley (wife Ellen).
Charlie will always be remembered as a quiet man who disliked being in the spotlight, who loved his God, and cherished his wife and family. His strong faith, and often strong opinions were the glue that strengthened him and those around him who loved and admired him.
Vigil services will be held Thursday January 13, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ventura California.
Services are scheduled for Friday, January 14, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ventura.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent dePaul, Sacred Heart Church.
