Christopher Mitchell Cole

After a valiant fight against cancer, Christopher "Chris" Mitchell Cole, 29, of Camarillo, California entered into heaven on Thursday, October 27, 2016, at St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital in Camarillo.

Chris was born on March 13, 1987, at St. John’s hospital in Oxnard, California, as the third son of Michael Cole and Lori (Meredith/Cole) Owens.

From the time he was born, Chris was a trusted sidekick to his dad, often accompanying him on custom cabinet build projects. This undoubtedly influenced Chris to become a talented carpenter. He enjoyed using his woodworking skills to make treasured gifts for his family and friends. He was incredibly handy, and was always willing to help with home projects or any repairs that people needed. He took after his dad in so many ways, even though they only had a short time together on this earth.

Due to his struggle with mental health issues, at certain points in his life, Chris found his way into some unpleasant situations. During these tougher times, he was supported and loved by many, and was welcomed into the homes of his extended family and friends, always with open arms. He was grateful for their kindness, and showed it by spreading that kindness to others, and being helpful and generous in any way that he could. In one final act of giving, Chris was able to donate his corneas, which will help to preserve or restore sight for someone in need. In memory of Chris, his family hopes you will find ways to pay it forward to others in your everyday life as well.

Chris was extremely bright, and during his almost 3 year battle with cancer, he acted boldly, and stayed true to himself the entire time. He fought hard until the very end, and was never afraid to speak up to doctors or nurses if he had questions or disagreed with a plan of action. His family would like to extend sincere gratitude to Dr. Hornstein, Dr. Kong, Dr. Siavash and all their staff who compassionately cared for Chris, and his entire family during this time.

Chris joins his father Michael Cole who preceded him in death on February 26, 1991.

Chris is survived by his mother and step father, Lori and Rick Owens; his grandparents, Hap and Marilyn Meredith; his brothers, Robert (Alison) and Greggory (Caitlin); his sisters, Erica (Michael), Brittany and Alyssa; Uncles & Aunts, Joe & Susan Cole, Mike & Dana Van Scoy, Henry & Lisa Aguilar, Matthew & Elaina Meredith, Joe & Susan Cole, Rick & Sherri Diaz and Tom & Jennifer Owens; dear friends, Mike and Cheryl Hamilton and Mike and Denise Lowe and families as well as numerous cousins, and friends whom he loved dearly. His nephew Ryder and nieces Madelyn and Alyssa brought great joy into his life.

Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 4, at 1:00pm, at Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura. A private burial will take place at a later date, where Chris will be laid to rest with his father, Michael Cole, at Westwood Hills Cemetery in Placerville, California.
