Lifelong Ventura resident, Clair “Gene” Eugene Arnold, 87, passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2015. He was born on February 13, 1928 in Lennox, California. He moved with his family to Ventura when he was a year old. Gene graduated from Ventura High School and later served in United States Air Force. After receiving an honorable discharge in 1959, Gene returned to Ventura and began working for Tidewater Oil and later Getty Oil.
In his younger years, Gene was an avid motorcycle racer and received many trophies and awards. He loved NASCAR, Saturday nights at the Ventura Raceway, cars, motorcycles and spending time with his friends and family. Those who knew Uncle knew he was much more than a race fanatic. He was a kind, generous, selfless man. Gene would be there for anyone at any time. There is truly no one else like him, and to say that he will be missed, is an understatement.
Gene was preceded in death by his mother and father, Betty and Fred Arnold. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Carol and B.B. Butcher; niece, Carol Brown and her husband, David and their three children, Jessica Gardner (husband Russell), Justin Brown (wife Ariana) and Jordan Brown; nephew, Greg Butcher and his children, Bailey and Daniel Butcher; and his five great-great nieces and nephews, Drake, Ruby, Beau, Charlene, and Piper.
“I know for certain that we never lose the people we love, even to death. They continue to participate in every act, thought and decision we make. Their love leaves an indelible imprint in our memories. We find comfort in knowing that our lives have been enriched by having shared their love.” –Leo Buscaglia
Services for Gene are private.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura.
