Corolyn Powell

Corolyn Marie Powell died at home on February 1, 2011 with her family by her side. She was born in Tipton, Kansas in 1922 and went to Tipton High School with a graduating class of eight students. After high school she completed her nurses training in Salina, Kansas and received her RN. Following her dreams and the Big Bands she relocated to Los Angeles, California and accepted a position as a nurse at St. Vincent’s Hospital, where she met the love of her life, Dr. Noble A. Powell, Jr. Nobie and Corolyn were married at the San Buenaventura Mission in 1946 and were just about to celebrate their 60th Anniversary when Nobie passed in 2006. They lived in Ventura for a short period before moving to Oxnard and eventually to Camarillo. Corolyn, loved her pets and garden, baking, playing bridge and golf, and was a master seamstress. However, her special love was taking care of her family and was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was also known as the Fernwood Drive block Mom because of the special way she treated the kids in the neighborhood. Corolyn leaves behind her sons Noble III (wife Marietta) and John (wife Gayle), daughters Kathleen (husband Robert Kelley), and Marian (husband Peter Everest), daughter-in-law Denise, grandchildren Maureen (husband Brian Hefelfinger), Brian, Russell, Kara (husband Theodore Boyd), Daniel, Kaitlin, Mitchell, Kristine, ME, Connor, Laura, Noble IV, Mariah, and Kelly, great grandchildren Bridget, Lane, Devan, Jamison, and Jack and sister Irene Shea of Kansas City. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter Elizabeth, husband, Nobie and eldest son Bob. The family would like to thank the ladies of the Visiting Angels of Ventura County for their loving care for Corolyn, especially Cindi Cesnaiskas, who became part of the family. Funeral Mass will be held 10 AM., February 12, 2011, at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church at the corner of Las Posas and Crestview in Camarillo. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Livingston Memorial Visiting Nurse Association in the name of Corolyn Powell, 1996 Eastman Avenue, Suite 101, Ventura, California 93003 (a Tax Exempt Charitable Organization) 805 642-0239.
