

Don was born November 30, 1920 in Mt. Vernon, Indiana. He was a graduate of the Mt.
Vernon High School in 1938 and went to work in the oil field in Southern Illinois where
He met Vera Mae Coleman who was to become his wife of 66 years.
He served in WWII with the Seabees for three and a half years and married Vera in Ventura April 8, 1945. He attended Evansville University, Indiana for a brief period and decided to go back into the petroleum industry where he stayed until he retired in 1985.
He worked at various positions for various drilling contractors all over the world and bragged that his career included digging ditches in the oil fields of Southern Illinois to being a Vice President of Operations for an international drilling contractor. He was most proud of the fact that he was never out of work in the oil fields for 35 years.
He was a long time member of the Petroleum Production Pioneers, an avid golfer for most of his life and a Past President of the Saticoy Senior Men’s Golf Club.
He was a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Survivors include wife Vera, and sons Gene A. Coker and wife Patti of Santa Paula, California and Gary W. Coker of Oak View, California, 4 grandsons, 1 granddaughter and 3 great-grandkids and also brother and sister-in-law Lloyd and Nadine Coker of Vista, California and numerous nieces and nephews.
It is the family’s wish that the remains be cremated and no services be held.
