Doris Tuominen

Born October 5, 1920, in Belleville, Illinois, she was the daughter of Clarence H. Streck and Elsie

G. Streck.

She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer A. Tuominen and son Jeffrey A. Tuominen.

She is survived by her daughter Jane Schwantes of Los Alamitos, Ca; son Paul Tuominen and wife Roxanne of Ventura, Ca; Granddaughter Wendy Sutherlin and husband Norman of Yorba Linda, Ca. Great-grandchildren, Lauren and Jack Sutherlin of Yorba Linda, Ca. Grandchildren, Jason and Cindy Secor of Ventura, Ca; Eric and JoAnna Secor of Bandera, TX; Great grandchildren, Madison and Jayden Secor of Ventura, Ca; Natalie Secor of Las Vegas, NV; and Sophia Secor of Bandera,TX.

After graduating High School, Doris enrolled in the Barnes-Jewish College of Nursing, St. Louis, MO. After receiving her Registered Nursing degree, Doris enlisted in the U.S. Navel Reserves. She was called to active duty on October 6, 1942 and served as an U.S. Naval Ensign, R.N. during WWII until August 6, 1944 when received an Honorable Relief from Active duty.

During her time in the Navy she met Elmer Tuominen, U.S. Navy Chief Pharmacists Mate, who she married and was married to for 39 years. Doris was a homemaker and mother of 3.

Doris enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed music, the arts, reading, bird watching, and animals of all kinds especially her beloved pets. Doris was an avid sports fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, LA Dodgers, Los Angeles Angels and LA Lakers. Her spirit, gentle nature, and sense of humor will be missed.

Arrangements are under the direction of Charles Carroll Funeral Home, Ventura, Ca. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday January 21, 2015 at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, Ventura, Ca.
