

After a brief illness, George Raymond MacDonald passed away peacefully March 30, 2011 at age 87 in Community Memorial Hospital, Ventura, California. He was born January 20, 1924 in Los Angeles, California. He was preceded in death by his mother Pauline Robinson father George Allen MacDonald, his daughter Kathleen Dempsey and former wife Inez MacDonald.
As part of the Greatest Generation, he volunteered at age 17 for the United States Army in World War II. He served with the Flying Tigers in China-India-Burma. He earned many decorations for his service, but he was most proud of his Asian Pacific Victory Medal with Bronze Star, which he was awarded 60 years after WWII. During the Korean war (1948-1952), he served the in U.S Army Reserve. He was awarded the “Cold Warrior” certificate by former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. He worked for San Joaquin Power Co. in Bakersfield California, which later merged with P.G. & E. After P.G. &E., his career as a high voltage electrician took him over seas to Kuwait, South Vietnam, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, and finally Israel.
He is survived by his sons George Roy Mac Donald, Stephen Romain MacDonald, daughter-in-law Linda Herron MacDonald, son-in-law Rickie Dempsey, granddaughters Michelle (Rey) Amaro and Denise MacDonald, great grandson Michael Amaro and great granddaughter Rebecca Amaro. Also, his many friends in Bakersfield, Red Bluff, and Santa Paula, California.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Ventura California Veteran’s Home, Ventura County Medical Center, The Venturan, Victoria Care Center, Community Memorial Hospital and Charles Carroll Funeral Home for his care.
George will be interned in the National Veteran’s Cemetery in Los Angeles, California
