Harry Richard Hibbs II

Mr. Hibbs was born December 19, 1939, in Redding, California and along with his family moved to Ventura in 1947. Harry was the son of William R. Hibbs who owned Hibbs Clothing Store on Main Street, Ventura, for many years.

Harry graduated from the University of Arizona in 1962 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He became a Certified Public Accountant in 1965 and worked in Ventura with the firm of Hutchison, Horn, Johnson and Hey.

He received his law degree and Master’s in Accounting from the University of Arizona in 1966 and passed the California State Bar, January 1967.

He returned to California and joined a law firm in Oxnard where he later became a partner and the firm was named, Lowthrope, Richards and Hibbs. For the past 25 years Harry has continued his practice with the Harry R. Hibbs Law Corporation.

Harry and his wife Jessica were avid sailors and were members of most of the local yacht clubs. Together they traveled the world on cruises and also enjoyed bare boat cruising. On many occasions their nephew Tyson and niece Tasha joined them on their travels.

Harry is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Jessica Hibbs of Ventura; brothers, John W. Hibbs of Eugene, Oregon and James K. Hibbs of Ventura; brother-in-law, Rex Burchett of Oxnard; nephew, Tyson Burchett of Sacramento; and his niece, Tasha Edwards of Ventura as well as many other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Harry was preceded in death by his father, William R. Hibbs and his mother, Virginia Hibbs Gould.

Graveside services will be held Sunday, July 24, 10:30 A.M. at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, Ventura.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Ventura County Museum of History and Art in Memory of Harry R. Hibbs or to a charity of your choice.

Keeping a tradition that began many years ago, at Harry’s request, Jessica will be holding a “Tonka Party” which will be announced at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura.
