Herbert Wayne Shaw

Herbert Wayne Shaw, age 95, passed away Monday, December 18, 2017, in Santa Barbara, California. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dona, one sister, H. Bernadine, and one brother, Nathan.

Herbert was a chemist who worked at the Army Ammunition Plant and for Federal Cartridge in Anoka, Minnesota. He also sold life insurance for many years. He was first married to Esther for 19 years and last to Dona for 33 years until her passing in 2013. Herbert had four children and four step-children.

Herbert had a strong work ethic, and was raised on farms in Southern Minnesota. He earned his way through Hamline University after his discharge from the Army Air Force. He volunteered at his church, was President of Mounds View PTA and President of his Homeowner’s Association in Phoenix for many years. Herbert loved golfing and gardening and was proud of the fact that he painted houses well into his late 80’s.

He is survived by two sisters, Betty and Janet (Merle); four children, Marsha Shaw Hill (David), Gail Shaw Opaas (Geir), Chuck Shaw, and Gordon Shaw (Jenny); four step-children, Don Samsal, Sherry Bjork Chanto, R. Scott Bjork (Patti), and G. Todd Bjork (Sabine); as well as numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life event is pending at this time.
