Ian moved to Ventura with his mom when he was a year old from the Bay Area and had been a 39 year resident of Ventura, a true local son. He was born on April 28, 1974, in Oakland, California. Growing up he attended Saticoy and Montalvo Elementary Schools, Cabrillo Middle School and graduated from Buena High School in 1993.
During his early years he loved playing baseball at Saticoy and Montalvo Little Leagues and Pop Warner Youth Football. As Ian grew older he was passionate and loved to surf the beaches of Ventura,” The Pipe” being his favorite break. He also was an avid skateboarder, water and jet skied.
Ian had a smile that could light a room and was a friend to all. The “sparkle” in Ian’s eye was his niece, Selah, who lovingly called him “kunukle.” His huge heart, love and tenderness were very evident whenever he was with Selah and that smile was brighter than ever.
Ian went to join his Mom and Grandpa with the Angels in Heaven, on Friday, February 27, 2015.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Siapan Nichols and grandpa, Wilbur “Nick” Nichols both of Ventura. Ian is survived by his grandmother, Inez “Lo” Nichols; his father, Mike Nichols; sister, Cesalinn Nichols; brother, Spencer Nichols all of Ventura; uncle Mark Nichols and aunt Lori Nichols of Camarillo; cousins, Ryan Nichols of Ojai, Colby MacIassac of Goleta, Shawn Woods and Shannon Hotchkiss of San Diego; and his loving niece, Selah Siapan Rose of Ventura.
“We love you Ian and you will be missed greatly. You will always be with us in our hearts, and it’s a great comfort to know that you are wrapped in the loving arms of your mother’s embrace.”
There will be a casual memorial to celebrate Ian at the Ventura Serra Cross, Saturday, March 7, 2015, from 5pm until 6pm, friends of Ian are welcome and flowers encouraged.
