

James Porter Converse, 72, passed away suddenly at his home in Santa Rosa Valley on Wednesday, June 4, 2014. He was born in Covina, CA on May 13, 1942, to Charles and Doris Converse. He was a 34 year resident of Ventura County.
James spent his career as a salesman in the wholesale appliance industry. He began working for Sues Young and Brown in 1964 and retired in 2009, after 45 years of dedicated service. James was active in the community. He also took great pride in being a member of the National Rifle Association and The Heritage Foundation. James loved fast cars and boats. He could always be found watching NASCAR or NHRA Drag Racing.
James enjoyed spending time outdoors either maintaining his orchard or relaxing at the Colorado River. During his down time, James could be found playing Sudoku, solving crossword puzzles and spending time with his dog and cat.
He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Robyn Christine Converse; Carol Austin (mother of Gwendolyn and Sabrina); daughters, Gwendolyn Converse of San Diego, CA, Sabrina Dadalt and husband, Marcos of Murrieta, CA; stepson, Bryan Crawford and wife, Nikki of Ojai, CA; brother, Terry Converse and wife Wendy of Fallbrook, CA; nephew, Michael Converse and wife, Laura of Laguna Niguel, CA; and grandchildren, Brady Crawford, Isabella Dadalt, Lucas Dadalt, and Addyson Crawford. He will be greatly missed by yellow lab "Wilson" and orange tabby cat "Fred".
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2014, 10:30 a.m. at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura, with the Reverend Dan Hull officiating. Burial will follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Valentine Road, Ventura.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the National Rifle Association.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home.
