

Jimmy was born October 8, 1932, in China to Mr. and Mrs. Ming Chit Wong. After immigrating to Ventura as a teenager, he learned English and graduated from Ventura High School in 1959 and from the University of Southern California in 1966 with a B.A. degree in architecture. On August 4, 1960, he married Valerie Chan in Hong Kong.
Jimmy was employed as an architect until he retired from Woodyard and Associates in 1992. He was a member of the American Institute of Architects, the Ventura Downtown Lions Club for over 25 years, and a member of the Ventura County Chinese American Club since 1970. In retirement, Jimmy and Valerie joined the Midweek Wanderers Motor Coaching Club. When he was a student he won many awards in the County Fair for his artwork - he did hundreds of charcoal portraits, paintings and architectural renderings. Jimmy enjoyed growing and sharing fruits and vegetables from his garden, going to USC Trojan football games, fishing, boating and traveling the world. He also cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren and getting everyone together for family vacations.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Valerie; daughter, Janice, of Ventura; sons, Kenny and Victor and Victor’s wife Linley, of San Diego; five grandchildren, Jenna and Leanne Hahn, Kathryn, Laurissa and Dominic Chan; sister, Yuk Woo Chow; brother, Kin Wong; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, July 20, 2015, 11:00 am, at Ted Mayr Funeral Home 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura, CA 93003. Burial will follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, in Ventura. Those who wish to attend the services may dress casually.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home.
