It is with broken hearts we say good bye to John “Johnny” Addison, following his brave struggle with a lengthy illness. Our wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle, son went to be with Jesus September 21, 2017. He was born March 16, 1945 in Long Beach CA.
This “Quiet Man” with the ever present smile had a heart of gold and would help any who asked. John loved his family deeply. He was a true good listener, never had a bad word to say about anyone and gave intelligent, insightful and valuable advice. We often suggested he go on “Jeopardy” with his multiple tidbits of knowledge in so many fields.
His lifelong love of motorcycles was passed along to his sons and theirs sons and daughters. Many happy memories we will recall of the camping trips in the motor home to Gorman to dirt bike and relax around the campfire. John was an avid street bike rider and so loved his Harley. Camping with the family on summer vacations traveling up and down California brings favorite memories. His idea of kicking back was along the Rincon in the motor home watching and listening to the waves.
John was a long time county resident, moving to Oxnard from Long Beach in 1959. He graduated from Hueneme High in 1963. He was a Ventura County Deputy Sheriff for a period of seven years. He then changed careers, eventually obtaining his Mechanical Contractors license. He worked many years in the HVAC industry, owning and operating his own firm and was a member of Local 273 Sheet Metal Workers Union.
He is preceded in death by his mother Violet Obrien, step father Albert Obrien and father Renay Addison.
He adored his wife, Joan with whom he shared 44 wonderful years of marriage. (“John, you were my north, south, east and west, I will forever love you”)
He is survived by daughter Renee Kreutler, granddaughter Alexandria Kreutler and daughter Robin Addison of Columbus, OH; son Josh Addison, wife Kacey, grandsons, Zack and Brody of Fillmore, CA and son Jeremy Addison, wife Laura, grandson Griffin, granddaughters Sophia and Paisley Ann of Camarillo, CA “We love you always and forever Poppy”
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, October 27, 2017 at Ivy Lawn Mausoleum Chapel in Ventura. The family is inviting all to join them for a luncheon to celebrate John’s life at Poinsettia Pavilion in Ventura at 12 noon following the service.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donation to the American Heart Association, 212 W. Figueroa St, Santa Barbara, CA 93101 or charity of your choice.
Our heartfelt gratitude is extended to the exemplary nursing staff of Los Angeles Kaiser Permanente coronary care unit in their gentle, loving care of “Johnny”.
