

Kay Marilyn Mead died at the age of 76, following a long and often painful illness in Ventura. Kay peacefully made her transition into Spirit on Saturday, December 13, 2014, after a day of joking with family, friends and staff; while waiting for her next cup of coffee. Kay is now sharing that coffee with her late husband Frank and having a nice dance to some Benny Goodman music.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio on May 7, 1938 to Frank and Gladys Forsythe. She moved with family to California at age five. Kay graduated from Saint Ferdinand High School in San Fernando, CA, in 1956. She married Frank Allen Mead in 1956 and moved to Ventura in 1962.
Kay worked for Ventura Unified School District for 17 years as a Special Education Teachers Aide and later as a district Buyer.
She was an active member of Our Lady of Assumption Church and served with Frank in Marriage Encounter for many years.
Kay is survived by her son, Thomas Mead; daughter, Laureen Renar; grandchildren, Brittany Alanna Palma, Tyler Espinoza, Claire Renar and Wyatt Renar. She is sister to the late June Seiber, late Lois McGinley and Donald Fancher.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, December 17, 2014, at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Rd., Ventura, from 5pm until 7pm. A rosary and vigil will begin at 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Assumption, 3175 Telegraph Rd., Ventura, on Thursday, December 18th, 11 am. A reception at the church will follow the interment at Santa Clara Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home.
