Mr. Kee-Kit Kwan was born on November 9, 1921 in the Hoi Ping District of Kwangtong Province in Southern China. He went to be with the Lord on March 2, 2011. He was the second of four children born to Bong-Voon Kwan (father) and Tang Sing (mother). He is survived by his beloved wife Kam Tse and four children, eldest son Sze-Yin, daughter Mei Sheung (Julie), second son Sze-Ching (Francis), youngest son Sze-Hon (Leslie) and his two sisters Lan-Fong Chow and Mui-Fong Mok. He was also blessed with a total of twelve grand-children and ten great grand-children who adored him very much.
He was married at the very young age of 17 at the suggestion of parents to his wife while she was only 16 yrs. old. He attended and graduated from the famous Wong Bo Military Academy in China during the second World War and became a military officer in 1945. Shortly after, he worked as a Tariff Control Officer at the Custom Dept. near his hometown harbor. He quitted couple years later because he could not tolerate the rampant corruption practice in the department operations. Then he became an instructor at the Police Academy in Canton and worked there for several years. He was a young man full of ideals and ambitious dreams. He was well loved by his friends and relatives because of his big heart and generous personality. He always enjoyed treating people with genuine care and kindness.
In 1950, he had to escape from China's Communist Party and moved to Hong Kong. After living in Hong Kong for two years, he wanted to provide the best for his family, so he decided to immigrate to Venezuela to help his father with his grocery business while his family continued to live in Hong Kong. He stayed in Venezuela for 25 years. During those years living in South America, he traveled back and forth to Hong Kong to visit his family countless times. He was totally devoted to and loved his family very much.
He treasured each family reunion and stayed with his family in Hong Kong for weeks or even months at times.
He valued and held education to the highest regard. Hence he always encouraged his children to pursue and achieve greater academic goals. He was extremely happy and most proud when his two younger sons received their doctorate degrees in Engineering.
During his retirement years in the U.S., he spent many years in helping his eldest son and daughter to run their restaurant business in Southern California. He was a great host at the restaurant for years due to his excellent people skill and fluency in Spanish.
He was also an avid reader and had a passion to learn new things even during his retirement years. He enjoyed reading his daily newspaper to be updated on local news and current world events. He loved watching sports on TV too; especially all basketball matches with the L.A. Lakers as his favorite basketball team. But his utmost favorite past-time is playing and joking around with his grand-children and great grand-children.
In the last couple of years, his health had deteriorated gradually. But he was so blessed to be surrounded by his beloved family members; enjoying their visits and experiencing their love while he was living in the convalescent home.
Throughout his retirement years living in the U.S., he had many opportunities to listen to the gospel and God's great salvation; more than once he had proclaimed his faith and belief in the salvation of our Lord Jesus Christ. We, the family take great comfort in knowing that he is now resting in the loving arms of our Almighty God in heaven. Praise God for his very full and blessed life on earth! He will always be deeply loved and greatly missed by all of us!
