

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Kenneth Roland Dobbins, following a lengthy illness. He passed peacefully in his sleep at his home in Oak View, on June 14, 2016. He was born in Holly Springs, South Carolina on March 20, 1930. He moved to California in 1963 from Akron, Ohio.
Ken spent 22 years as a Ventura County Sheriff and retired in 1987. He was also a very accomplished baseball player where he was the number one starting pitcher and hitter for the United States Navy during the Korean War.
Other than his family, his greatest love was the New York Yankees and coaching young boys and men in baseball. He also loved his garden and woodworking.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Shirley A. Dobbins (Downey) and his daughter, Carol E. Duran (Dobbins), along with several brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. As well as his mother and father.
He is survived by his son, Steven Dobbins; son-in-law, Michael Duran; grandchildren, Shannon Jones (Duran) and her wife Liv Jones, Denise Duran and Christopher Duran; great-grandchildren, Chance Jones and Serenity Jones; sisters-in-law, Ruth Downey and Millie Downey; and countless nephews and nieces.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2016, 11:00 am, at Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, in Ventura, with a reception for friends and family at the house of Millie Downey, 314 Virginia Drive, in Ventura, immediately following.
