It is with a saddened heart that we announce the sudden passing of Lucille Merrill on November 11, 2011, at the age of 72. Always a woman filled with love and laughter she will be missed by all who were blessed to know her.
Lucy married her one true love Ken on July 9, 1955 and they spent every day and night together since that day. They were the true example of “eternal love” Moving to Ventura in 1969 they soon made their mark in the community.
In October of 1961 they welcomed their daughter Carrie and just 17 months later in March of 1963 their second daughter Kim was born. Both girls raising their families in Ventura, becoming second generation Venturan’s!
In her early career Lucy worked at United California Bank (UCB) in Ventura before beginning a long work & family relationship with Leaven’s ranches as a bookkeeper. She retired after 28 years working with them.
Lucy will always be remembered for instilling her faith in Jesus into the lives of her family. Lucy gave everything she had to others, often times putting their needs before her own. After speaking with her just once, you would soon know by name those in her family, she was a proud wife, mother and grandmother, and loved to share each accomplishment with everyone!
Lucy loved her family, and they meant the world to her, her grandchildren were the world to her! She and Ken never missed a single, basketball, baseball or soccer game, they knew the player names on the teams as well as the families and became a focal point in the stands as well as on the field cheering the teams on.
Lucy is a member of Ventura First Assembly of God church, raising her children in the church. She enjoyed the scripture and music and always said she knew “where she was going when she left the earth” Reading her Bible each day became second nature to her, and when others had questions about where to find information in the Bible, they knew who to come to. Her faith was something that she was proud to share.
Lucy enjoyed learning more about her past, and was active in her genealogy group finding history and relatives on both her side of the family as well as Ken’s. She was especially proud of “finding” some of Ken’s Irish relatives, who soon came and spent a month “doing tourist” activities here in the states!
To those left on earth there is a sadness in our hearts as we say good-by to this amazing wife, mother, grandmother and friend. We however take comfort in knowing that we will again see her when we are “home” with her.
Lucy is survived by her loving husband of 55 years Ken as well as her daughters and son-in laws; Carrie Russell and Rico Sablan, Kim Luken and Bill Luken of Ventura, her grandchildren: Rick (April), Brian (Jessica), Bradley, Caitlyn, Ricky, Breann & Reanna all of Ventura. Sister Doris of Arizona, Luther of Hesperia, CA., Kathleen Bauer-McFarland of Stockton, sister in law Ola Crew of Oklahoma, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews & cousins.
Lucy was preceded in death by both parents: Roy & Polly Crew, as well as older brother Lloyd Crew.
A celebration of Lucy’s life will be held at Ventura First Assembly of God church located at 346 N. Kimball Rd. on Saturday November 19th at 2:00 p.m.
