Mario Bustamante

Mario Alberto Bustamante left us and freed his spirit on January 25, 2011, after a valiant battle against Alzheimer's disease. He passed away at the Vista Cove Nursing Home in Santa Paula, his loved ones having spent his last moments at his side.

Mario was born in Mexico City on April 4, 1961. He came to the States 21 years ago to raise his family and create a better life for us. He was locally known as the most beloved employee of the Toppers Pizza in North Oxnard. My father bravely worked far into his illness and Toppers was extremely supportive. My father filled my childhood with stories of his past and dreams of the future, sewn together with great memories. As I was my father's only child, we were inseparable, and enjoyed many trips to Disneyland, camping at Lake Cachuma and the Channel Islands, and many other adventures.

My father's spirit will be remembered as brave and humble. If you knew him, you will remember his wide smile and sweet, distinct dimples on his cheeks. He is the most amazing person I ever met. Every aspect of his life is inspiring. I am very fortunate and blessed to have had Mario as my father. He lifted the spirit of everyone he met.

Mario is survived by his loving daughter, Veronica “Jackie” Bustamante, his sister, Laura Jones, his niece, Erica Jones, and Raquel Montes. The family would like to thank the Vista Cove Nursing Home in Santa Paula and the loving staff for caring for Mario for the past two years. A celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, February 5, 2011, at 1:00p.m. in the Chapel at Charles Carroll Funeral Home in Ventura. All who knew Mario or his family are welcome to attend.
