Maryetta F. Wesley, 87, of Ventura passed away peacefully on December 23, 2010 from complications of pneumonia. Her devoted daughters were by her side.
Maryetta was born and raised in the small town of Ferrell, New Jersey to Samuel and Pearl Frye. She was one of 10 children. After graduating from Glassboro High School, at age 18, she and a cousin made a courageous move and traveled west to California to start a new life. She acquired a job as a "Runner" (messenger) at the Long Beach Shipyards and that is where she met the love of her life, her husband and our father Harry Wesley. They started their life together in Ventura County, both employed at the Port Hueneme Naval Base. Maryetta worked for several years in data processing before deciding to become our wonderful full time Mom and homemaker. She has remained a Ventura County resident for 67 years.
Besides being the greatest mother in the world, Maryetta loved gardening, sewing, interior decorating, listening to music, singing, laughing, traveling to visit friends, and just being around and enjoying her family.
She had a tremendous love of life and a healthy stubbornness which enabled her to accept challenges and never give up. She beat the odds and conquered cancer twice. She suffered with osteoporosis which left her with 2 shattered ankles after a bad home accident and the inability to walk without a walker and she rarely complained. With her continual positive attitude and will to carry on, she did just that. She was a survivor in her own right.
Maryetta was preceded in death by her loving husband of over 40 years, her father, her mother, sister Alma Stevenson and brothers Raymond and Howard. She is survived by her three daughters, Marcia Sween (John), Colleen Simmons (David), and Barbara Collinson (Tom); granddaughter, Staci Sween - Rubin (Michael), grandson Benjamin Collinson and great grandsons, Ethan and Chase Rubin; in New Jersey, her sisters, Betty Darrell (John), Bertha DeLeeuw, Ida Boeckle (Jim ), and Becky Metcalf; brothers Sam and Warren Frye (Rose ) and many more nieces, nephews and relatives.
Maryetta will be remembered for her calm and patient nature, kind words, her inherited Frye quick wit, her incessant smile, her great sense of style and, of course, the twinkle in her beautiful eyes. This wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Rest in peace sweet Maryetta. We love you.
A Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 4th at Charles Carroll Funeral Home, 15 Teloma Drive, Ventura, 93003. Burial will follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, Ventura.
Arrangements under the direction of Charles Carroll Funeral Home, Ventura, CA.
