Maurice C. Jensen passed away peacefully at home Sunday, January 31, 2010, with family and friends close by.Morey, as he came to be known, grew up in Woonsocket, South Dakota, and attended school there. He loved Ventura, and lived here most of his life. He owned a sporting goods store, worked with youth groups and had coached Little League Baseball and Ventura Youth Basketball. Morey enjoyed bowling, became quite a movie buff, loved history, and was an avid Los Angeles Angels fan.In later years, he maintained a lawn and gardening business, always being close to the earth, never quite leaving his roots in South Dakota. Morey would often reminisce about growing up on the prairie and loving the “Big Sky.”He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Bryan and Lisa Jensen, and grandchildren, Matthew and Melissa, of Oxnard, Brett and Cheryl Jensen, and grandchildren, Andrew and Heather, of Ventura, and Brad Jensen of Castle Rock, Wash; siblings, Marvin Jensen and wife, Michelle, of North Platte, Neb, Betty Blankenship and husband, Roger, of Tucson, Ariz, Ada Alt and husband, Clifford, of Fresno, and Gary Jensen and wife, Lynn, of Sioux Falls, SD; and 10 nieces and nephews.Morey took great pride in his sons and grandchildren, and shared many memories.Maurice also leaves behind his beloved Merry Ann.And so today we said our final goodbye to a rough, tough, sweet, wild spirit. Farewell Cowboy, until we meet again… Happy trails. You will be sorely missed.Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, February 6, at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Rd., Ventura, with the Reverend Dave Hall of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating.Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home and Crematory, Ventura.
