Melody was born May 12, 1947, in Ventura, California to loving parents James (Bill) and Beverly Winfrey.
Melody along with sister June and brother Robert grew up on East Vince Street near Ventura’s downtown Main Street where she attended E.P. Foster Elementary. As children they enjoyed roller skating about the streets and sidewalks, sharing long talks while walking to school together and happily playing games of hide and seek, or kick the can with all of the neighborhood children before returning home together at sunset.
Melody attended and graduated from Ventura High School. During her high school years she met a college boy named Mel Sheeler; marrying him in 1965 and later giving birth two sons, Glen and Eric Sheeler.
Some years later after her divorce from Melvin, she met and married Douglas Aldrich, having two sons of his own, James and Jason, they raised their four boys on Larkin Street in Ventura.
Melody ran a successful child day care service for many years and enjoyed planning trips to the beach, fun excursions, birthday celebrations and lasting relationships with the children in her care.
She was also a gifted Interior Designer always eager to lend her talents to others and to decorate and beautify homes.
After the boys graduated Doug and Melody relocated to Twain Harte, California in 2003 until their divorce, after which she settled into the small town of Crystal Falls, California.
Melody was known for her beauty. She loved getting dressed up in pretty outfits, hair and makeup & spending time with friends; laughing and joking, enjoying a meal, watching movies together, discussing and reading books and enjoying life. Like her father, Melody held a deep love and affection for animals having owned and cared for so many and having compassionately nursed many sick and injured back to health throughout the years. We will miss Melody’s warm welcoming embraces, her infectious laughter, quick witted sense of humor, and zest for life, her family and friends.
Melody is survived by her sons, Glen (wife Kimberly) and Eric (wife Andreya) Sheeler; sister, June Connick; brother, Robert Winfrey; step sons, James and Jason (wife Sara) Aldrich; niece, Anne Maree Connick; nephews, Russell (Bethany) Connick and David (Carrie) Winfrey; and great nephews, Elijah, Caleb and Ryan Connick.
We express special thanks to Becky Seeley-Savino for her years of joyous friendship with Melody. You freely gave and enriched her life with thoughtful understanding, unwavering support and light and we are eternally grateful.
