Myron was born in Los Angeles, CA, November 6, 1923. After earning a Premeteorology Certificate from Pomona College, he served as a sergeant in the Western Pacific Theater as a weather observer for the U.S. Army Air Corps. Following WWII, he graduated from UC Berkeley with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Petroleum Engineering in 1950. This was followed by the prestigious title of Professional Engineer awarded to him in 1963.
Myron’s career in Petroleum Engineering spanned over 33 years. He initially worked for Sunray DX Oil Co., which later merged with Sun Oil Co. During that time he held positions in production engineering, drilling engineering, manager of production, manager of Sun’s Platform Hillhouse in the Santa Barbara Channel, and ultimately as the Manager of Sun Production Company’s U.S. offshore and Alaska production regions. He was active in the independent non-profit organization, Clean Seas, Inc., and in Clean Gulf Associates, both designed to help protect coastal waters. He also served on the Environmental Oil Quality Committee of the Greater Ventura Chamber of Commerce.
Myron was married to Eileen N. Elliott for 58 years. They had two daughters: Caroline and Dorothy. Together they lived in California, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. After his retirement in 1984, Myron and Eileen returned to Ventura, and for the next two decades they traveled extensively around the world and continued to enjoy fishing trips and family visits. Myron was an avid reader, an amateur photographer, and a sports enthusiast. He was also very interested in electronics, and actually made the family’s first color television and stereo.
Myron is survived by his daughters, Caroline Lehman of Woodbury, MN, and Dorothy Grimm of Elk Grove, CA.; his sons-in-law, Don Lehman and Dan Grimm; grandchildren, Heather Jeffrey and her husband, Steven Jeffrey of Big Lake, MN, Scott Grimm of Pleasanton, CA, and Sam Grimm and his wife, Gina Grimm, of Vacaville, CA; and great-granddaughter, Anna Marie Jeffrey.
The family wishes to thank the loving and compassionate support of the Roze Room Hospice of Ventura team—you helped Myron pass with dignity and you gave us ALL peace. They also wish to thank the excellent staff at Victoria Care Center—the comfort you provided for Myron was deeply appreciated.
Throughout his life, Myron was devoted to his family and committed to his community. He was a generous, intelligent, and caring man who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. If you wish, please donate in his memory to the charity of your choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Rd., Ventura.
