Peggy was born on March 4, 1932, in Benton, TN, to William J and Nina Lawson Moorhouse. After graduating from Polk County High School in 1949, Peggy completed her Nursing training from Baptist Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Memphis, where she continued to work as an RN.
In 1959 Peggy met and married William C. Sones, a Navy pilot from Bogaloosa, LA. They moved to California, and Peggy had three sons as her husband advanced his career as a Naval aviator. Tragically, Bill was killed in the line of duty in 1967.
In 1969, Peggy was re-married to Leonard J. Wood. Mr. Wood was a widower with three daughters, and the new family became Ventura County’s very own version of the “Brady Bunch”. Leonard passed away in 2005 at the age of 86.
In addition to raising her family, Peggy was devoted to serving God and her church, being very active at Bible Fellowship Church in Ventura for many years. She had a special spot in her heart for missions and supported many missionary families both financially and in prayer. Peggy also enjoyed gardening, quilting, and canning.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents William and Nina Moorhouse, and her sisters Anna, Mary and Joyce. She was also preceded by her two husbands,
Lt. CMDR William C. Sones and Leonard J. Wood.
Peggy is survived by her brothers J.P. Moorhouse of Benton, TN, and William J. Moorhouse of Clevleand, TN; sisters Imogene Trewhitt of Cleveland, TN, and Mildred Roach of Anderson, IN; children Sheryl Bullock (Rich) of Redding CA, Susan Watkins (Scott) of Ventura, Lynette Harvey of Ventura, Philip Sones (Sherri) of Tucson, AZ, David Sones (Monica) of Grapevine, TX, Daniel Sones, DDS (Kim) of Ventura, and 13 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces.
A celebration of Peggy’s life will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, January 14th. Community Bible Church, 2734 Johnson Dr. Ventura.
