Phyllis Illeen Gomez (Lovatt, Mills) left this world to enter heaven on Monday, July 13, 2015, after a brief battle with lung cancer. Mom was surrounded in love at the time of her passing by her husband Joseph Gomez, her children; Melody O'Leary-Namikas, Robert Fildes, Mark Fildes, Richard Mills, and her grandchildren; Kaitlin Miller, Patrick O'Leary, Lindsey Fildes, as well as her other loved ones Alex Namikas, Jason Miller and Lauren Barnett.
Phyllis was born, March 27, 19XX, in Ventura where she resided most of her life. She moved to Newbury Park fifteen years ago where she met her husband Joseph who took care of her until her last day.
Phyllis was one of the funniest people, without actually meaning to be. Her grandchildren loved how she entertained them and their friends with her silliness and playfulness. She loved shopping and fashion and could often be found making rounds at The Oaks Mall in her walking shoes for exercise. Most of the salespeople at Macy's knew her by name. She dressed really cute, and was very creative.
Phyllis worked as a waitress at the Pierpont Inn for many years during the 1970's into the 80's. During that time the Pierpont Inn was the best! She met celebrities, made numerous friends, and had a lot of fun. Her sons Robert and Mark also worked there with her for a period of time. Later in her life, she began a new career as a nanny with an elite babysitting service, arriving at each job with her "Mary Poppins" bag filled with fun things to do. The kids loved her!
Phyllis loved the movie and the characters from "The Wizard of OZ" and had a large collection of memorabilia. Her life since childhood was not easy, and we believe that the story of Dorothy's journey down the yellow brick road was a metaphor for her life.
She loved her family immensely, and valued each member for their unique qualities. We all love and miss her very much, but know that she is in a wonderful place...in heaven... "Somewhere Over the Rainbow."
In addition to those mentioned above Phyllis is also survived by her granddaughters, Felicite and Cecelea Mills, Desiree Mills; great grandchildren, Laelah Marruso and her unborn great-grandson, Miller.
