It is with a great sense of loss that the family of Raul Borunda Perez, 83 years young, announces his passing on October 22, 2015. He passed away following a courageous five year battle with cancer. His suffering has ended and he is now in the loving arms of God. Raul was born on December 11, 1931 in El Paso, Texas. He moved to California as a young adult with his new bride and they became permanent residents of Ventura. They raised five children together and have made many lasting friendships throughout the years. He worked for more than 40 years at Ventura Coastal Corporation as a lead mechanic.
Raul is survived by his wife, Natalie of 62 years; oldest son, Raul and his wife (Rachel), daughter, Nancy, son, Fred and his wife (Lori), son, Art and his wife (Shilo), and son, Alex. Raul was blessed with eleven grandchildren, Gina (Joe), Raoul (Sarah), Anthony, Tyler, Torrey, Allison, Miranda, Ella, Sierra, Mia, and Ben; and three great-grandchildren, Bella, Jake, and Salomon. There was nothing more important to him than his family.
Raul enjoyed the simple things in life and over the years many people were touched by his kind heart and his joyful spirit. He had the most beautiful smile and wonderful sense of humor. Raul always cared for others before himself and there was a special warmth he had that drew people to him.
Raul loved watching and cheering for his beloved Dodgers and with the same enthusiasm cheered for his children and grandchildren’s sporting, musical, or other events. He liked to surprise the grandkids with chocolate bars in his pocket or have a silver dollar to reward them for a job well done.
Always the optimist, Raul for years would routinely walk to the grocery store to buy his scratchers and when I went with him I felt like I was with a rock star. As we walked around the store many of the cashiers and managers at Ralphs would come over to greet him. And we thank you for making him feel so special.
Raul loved to go to Chumash a few times a year. He gambled modestly and viewed it as entertaining as going to a movie. He loved the horse races at the Derby Club and it became a father’s day tradition for his children and him to go for a few hours to the club and then meet with the rest of the family afterwards for a celebration. We never won big. But the many fond memories and laughter we shared are priceless.
Raul had a hearty appetite, loved to listen to live music, and was a great dancer. He enjoyed life and lived it well and honorably. We are thankful for his kind words and wisdom and the many memories that we will cherish forever. Raul, our father, was deeply loved and respected, more than any words can ever express.
The family of Raul B. Perez is very grateful to all those that provided prayers, family support and care. We especially would like to thank the staff of Silverado Hospice for their quality care and professionalism. We would also like to give special thanks to Cirilo and Jose who provided personal care for our father and helped our mother during these difficult times.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2015, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., at Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, in Ventura.
