Raymond Edward Reid

Ray served in the United States Air Force, stationed in England in the early 1950’s; this is where he met his wife, Annie. In 1954, after his time in the service, they moved to Kansas. While in Kansas, Ray and Annie had their daughter, Janette. In 1957, the family relocated to California, where Ray worked at Convair Aerospace in San Diego. During their time in San Diego, the family welcomed son, David. In 1964, Ray took a job at the Port Hueneme Naval Construction Battle Center as a civil engineer. He later moved to the Point Mugu Naval Air Station, working in weapons development until his retirement at age 55. Ray and his family moved to the Ventura Keys in 1968.

Ray enjoyed traveling with his family around the United States and abroad. He loved the outdoors and camping, first in tents and trailers, then motorhomes.

After retirement, Ray and Nancy joined a motorhome club and spent much of their free time traveling across the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Ray was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Annie. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Janette and Christopher O’Neill of Ventura; their three children, Caitlin, Corey and Garrett; his son and daughter-in-law, David and Lisa Reid of Colorado; their two children, Alexis and Sydney and his great-grandson, John Reid Tanton. Ray is also survived by sisters, Norma Sponsel of Kansas, Betty Bateman and husband, Carl of Nebraska, and Patricia Reid of Kansas; brother, Jerry Reid of Kansas; brothers-in-law Alan Shawbinns, and wife Sheila of Australia and Jeff Shawbinns and wife Eileen of Australia.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 28, 2014, 2:00 pm at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Valentine Road, Ventura, with Deacon Ed Mills of Our Lady of the Assumption officiating.

The Reid family would like to acknowledge the exemplary care and friendship provided to Ray by the employees at Aegis Assisted Living and the Coastal View Healthcare Center.
