Robert (Bob) Bentz joined his beloved wife, Beverly and daughter, Cindy Bailey, February 28, 2014 in life everafter with the Lord. Bob was born June 26, 1926 in Rapid City, South Dakota to Christina (Gladys) M. Kipp and Joseph L. Bentz. He grew up on the farm and the family moved to Santa Monica where he enjoyed working on hot rods and then enlisted in the Navy in March of 1944. He married his sweetheart, Beverly D. Morse, in Santa Monica on July 10, 1949 and soon moved to Arcata, CA where Bob would attend Humboldt State University and receive his teaching credential. Bob and Bev, together with their six children moved back to Ventura in 1961 where Bob taught science at DeAnza Junior High. He also furthered his professional career by obtaining a master’s degree and becoming a counselor at DeAnza, and in addition a summer school principal. Bob enjoyed hunting, traveling to Mexico and sportfishing, his cherished labrador retrievers, working on cars, playing bridge and cribbage with friends and family and umpiring local softball/baseball games. He also held a passion for flying, enjoying a glider flight and many helicopter and small plane flights.
Bob and Bev worked towards their dream of owning a ranch and retired to their 22 acre ranch in Templeton, CA. Bob would still work on cars, but spent most of his time working the land with Angus cattle, planting trees, and building barns. This was his passion. When they became unable to upkeep the property they moved back to Ventura, where he joined the Ventura T-Bird Club, managing poker runs, etc. His love for working on cars continued, he always had at least two cars he was working on at any given time. He also volunteered as an Ohmbudsman which gave him extreme satisfaction in the ability to give back to others. Most recently Bob enjoyed his dance club at the Pointsettia Pavillion on Monday nights and on the weekends loved driving up the coast to Rincon Ranch for their dance events.
Those that knew Bob know what a hard-working, busy man he was, as well as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and friend. Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife Beverly, daughter Cindy Bailey as well as his parents. He is survived by his daughter Kathy and Tim Clark, daughter Michele and James Stanford, son Joseph Bentz , daughter Barbara Weaver and Marty Highland, and daughter Liz and Claudio Luciani, as well his sister Sandi Talbot and Patty Rozsa . Bob is also survived by 13 wonderful grandchildren and six great-grandchildren he loved dearly and who were always close to his heart.
The family would like to invite friends and family to a “Celebration of Life” for Bob on Saturday, March 22nd at the home of Liz Luciani from 2-4 p.m.
Arrangements under the direction of Charles Carroll Funeral Home, Ventura, CA.
