Bob went to be with his Lord Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, September 08, 2010, with his loving wife Phyllis and granddaughter Jill Graham by his side, after battling a long illness. He was born on December 06, 1921 in Delta, UT and was a faithful lifetime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
After high school, he joined the U.S. Coast Guard in 1942 and served during WW II, on the USS Eberle (DD-430), a convoy and patrol escort ship, to various ports around the world. After his honorable discharge in October 1945, he worked as a dental technician until he began his Civil Service career that spanned 31 years, from sheet metal technician to airborne optics. He worked out of El Toro Marine Air Station, China Lake and retired from Naval Air Station Point Mugu. During his civil service years, he actively participated on the Civilian Welfare and Recreation Committee, leading various excursions and events including BBQs, fishing trips and blood drives.
After his retirement from civil service, he enjoyed a leisurely life of his favorite hobbies which included lake and deep-sea fishing, photography, gardening, silver smith, and gemology. He was a long-time volunteer and supporter of the Ventura County Food Share.
Bob’s greatest joy and priority in life was his family. He is lovingly survived by his wife of 67 years, Phyllis; his son Robert III (Linda) and their children Robert IV, Scott, Diann, Jeff (Lisa), Christopher (Jennifer); his son Tom and his children Erin (Matt) McHugh, Jill. He is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces and daughter-in-law Regina Graham. He is preceded in death by his parents Robert Sr. and Zella; sisters June and Louise; granddaughter Beth Graham and infant great-granddaughter Samantha Elliott.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, September 14, 2010, 2:00 P.M. at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Memorial Park, 5600 Lindero Canyon Rd., Westlake Village, CA. A short reception will follow and details will be provided at the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that you please make a donation to your favorite charity in Bob’s memory.
