On Sunday, February 4, 2018 when most of us were either worried about politics, the stock market, or watching the Super Bowl, Ruth was sharing her last day with her family and caregivers at home in Oak View.
Ruth was born on April 2, 1922, in Boston, Massachusetts. Soon thereafter, Ventura County became her family home where she resided most nearly all of her 95 years. Ruth attended and graduated from Ventura High School, became a beautician, and soon thereafter fell in love with and married the man of her life, Chuck. Her devotion to her husband and sons Charlie and Wayne set the highest example of what a wife and mother should be. She nourished her family as a stay at home mom. This gave her time to do some of the things that made her happy, like, reading romance novels and magazines, playing softball (she could smack it a mile), playing cards and board games, cooking and baking, (her lemon meringue pie is world famous), doing things with her hands like ceramics, cross stitch, crochet and other crafts. There is not a home in our family that does not have something made by Ruth.
She had a passion for dancing that found her and Chuck teaching country western and line dance to church groups, retirement homes, and school students. Her life was full and joyful. Her smile and touch will be missed forever.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Chuck, mother Charlotte Eaton, father Victor Newman, brothers Victor and Ralph Newman, and her youngest son Wayne Sitton.
Ruth is survived by many who love her: son and daughter in law, Charlie and Sally Sitton; niece, Robin Rivera (Rick); nephew, Victor Newman; grandchildren, Mike Sitton (Heidi), Kimarie Sitton, Scott Sitton, Ron Sitton (Ulla), Carrie Sitton Sandell (Ben), Mike Adams, Marie Patterson (Dave), Denise McMerrick, and Will Liggett (Jen); great grandchildren, Michael (Chelsea), Emilia (Jason), Andrea, Kayla, Erin (Dylan), Brooke, Jackson, Terra, Sandis, Mia, Arno, Devin, Willie, Robert and Breanne; great great grandchildren, Jacob, Oliver and Kai, with one more on the way.
A private family service is planned for a gathering in the High Sierra later in the year. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Widows and Orphans fund, c/o Ventura County Firefighter's Association, PO Box 385, Camarillo, CA 93011.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura, CA 93003. Condolences may be sent to TedMayrFuneralHome.com.
