Stuart was born on May 28, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois to John and Laura Klein. After graduating from high school in 1944, he was drafted and served in the U.S. Navy aboard the repair ship U.S.S. Chain. After his service ended, he was employed at Blue Streak Printers, where he met his future wife Edith Peterson. They were married on July 30, 1949.
In 1961, Stuart and Edith moved with their son and daughter to Ventura. In 1962, Stuart suffered a major stroke, but through his hard work and determination he was able to resume work and was employed at the U.S. Postal Service in Camarillo for 20 years.
He and Edith enjoyed golfing, traveling, cruising, and meeting with their many friends. Although a quiet man, everyone who met him liked him because of his gentle ways, kindness, and sense of humor.
At Stuart's request, no funeral services will be held. His family will meet at a later date for a private memorial service.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Laura Klein, brother Lloyd Klein, and sister Phyllis Peto. Stuart is survived by his wife of 65 years Edith, daughter Linda Mathews (George), son Chuck, special friend Danna Klein, grandchildren Kelly, David, Kevin, and Shawn Klein, and Alex Mathews. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Yvonne Klein, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Jihad Warwar, Dr. Thomas Fogel, and Dr. Lynn Kong for their compassionate care of Stuart during this difficult past year.
To honor Stuart's memory, the family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
