

Tom was born on April 27, 1922 in San Francisco, CA, and grew up in the San Fernando Valley. Tom attended Van Nuys High School and was a gymnast at UCLA.
He became a navigator for Pan American Airways during WWII, flying the Australian Clipper out of Treasure Island in San Francisco. After 30+ years working for Lockheed Aircraft in Burbank, Ca primarily in Flight Test and Flight Safety, Tom retired in 1987 as the Director of Commercial Flight Operations.
Tom was an active member of the American Institute of Astronautics and Aeronautics (AIAA) and the International Society of Air Safety Investigators (ISASI).
Golf and tennis were his primary pastimes and he was active in them until very late in his life.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Aileen (Koeber) Laughlin of Ventura; his two children, daughter Julia (John) Badham and family of Beverly Hills, CA. and son Dave and wife Robbie of Valencia, CA.
