For those who knew my father, know the kind of person he was. He was the kind of man you could count on with a word and a hand shake. A simple hard working man who loved his family, America and The Dodger's.
Vagn immigrated here from his native Denmark around 1959 with an agriculture degree. First, he worked on a family farm in Iowa, until receiving a call from Dr. Peto of Chicago and was offered a position at a brand new startup company, Peto Seed Co., based out of Saticoy, California. Vagn accepted the position and worked out of a trailer until retirement 45 years later.
One of my father's proudest moments was the day he became a United States citizen. He loved America and like many before and after, he had come to the land of opportunity.
He is survived by his wife, Letha L. Jensen, of Ventura; son, Jeffrey L. Johnson, of Ventura; grandchildren, Elissa M. Johnson, of Oregon and Tarra L. Johnson, of Ventura; great grandchildren, Kiera P. Johnson, of Oregon, Kyliegh F. Johnson, of Oregon and “our 16 day old angel,” Kaleb Lee Johnson, of Ventura.
My father was very proactive in making his final arrangements. However, due to a stroke he suffered in 2003, it kept him from completing his arrangements at the cemetery. We are accepting contributions on my father’s behalf.
On behalf of Vagn’s family, we would like to thank you for your contributions and prayers.
Services will be held on Friday, April 10, 2015, 11:00 am, at Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to TedMayrFuneralHome.com.
