

It is with great sadness the family reports the passing of Vera L. Lamp. Vera passed away peacefully of natural causes after a long and fruitful life. She will be remembered for her generosity and caring nature towards her family, friends and church.
Vera was born in Cumberland, MD. She resided there until 1943 when she traveled to Washington, D.C. to join the war effort and enlisted in the Coast Guard. After training, she was stationed in San Francisco, CA and served as Radioman Second Class until her honorable discharge in 1946. During that time, she met her future husband, Paul Lamp. They were married April 17, 1946, and moved to Cumberland, MD. After a brief time, they decided to move near Paul’s parents in Ventura, CA to build a life and raise their family. In 1957, they moved to Teloma Dr. in Ventura, where they established a close network of friends in a new and growing neighborhood.
Vera worked as a vocational nurse for the County of Ventura and later in the same capacity with a private practice physician. She retired as a receptionist with an orthopedic physician and physical therapy group.
She and Paul joined Trinity Lutheran Church of Ventura in 1948. Vera was active in Bible studies, quilting and numerous other church related activities. She loved playing bridge with various bridge groups and friends. She was a member of the Ventura Women’s Club.
Vera is preceded in death by her husband Paul; mother and father, Frances and George Reuschel; sisters Gladys Johnson, Helen Saville and brother Joseph Reuschel.
She is survived by her brother George W. Reuschel of Cumberland, MD, as well as local family; daughter Paulette Defterios, son and daughter-in-law Gregory and
Cindy Lamp; grandson and wife Jeffrey and Krista Lamp, granddaughter and husband
Heather and Jair Kuyper and great-grandchildren Finnley and Stella Kuyper; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews both locally and in Maryland.
Celebration of Life services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 196 N. Ashwood Ave., Ventura on Thursday, May 8 at 12:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Trinity Lutheran Youth Services.
