Virginia Moore, 86, died August 30, 2012, in Ventura following a stroke. She was born in 1926 in Libertyville, Illinois. Four years ago she moved to The Lexington in Ventura to be with her eldest daughter, Julie Moore.
Besides Julie Moore of Ventura, she is survived by two daughters and a son, John Moore of Toulouse, France, Jeri Smith of Tucson, Arizona and Marilyn Moore of Bernard, Maine; and seven grandchildren, Chris, Kacy and Kelsey Kuhn, Ryan, Andrew, Clara Moore and Kai Fox.
Before her move to Ventura, Ginny resided for 20 years in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico; 20 years in Santa Monica, California; and 13 years in La Cañada, California.
She was active for more than 40 years with the Unitarian Universalist Churches in Santa Monica, San Miguel de Allende, and Ventura. During the 1980s she served as national Co-Chair of the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee.
Ginny earned a B.A. from Stanford University and an M.A. in Public Administration from UCLA. She was an administrator in the Anti-Poverty Program during the 1960s and 1970s. Later, she renovated Spanish-style homes in the Los Angeles area, ultimately purchasing and remodeling the historic Palm Springs Inn Casa Cody with partners Frank Tysen and Therese Hayes.
Ginny was a life-long athlete, who enjoyed tennis, swimming, jogging, backpacking, rock climbing, river-rafting, and at age 60 she took up mountain biking. Her passion for social justice took many forms, but she was always full of compassion and energy to help others less fortunate. She loved opera and Classical music, and she traveled to many third-world countries.
Her family and many friends miss her enormously, while we also celebrate her long, full life.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2012, 10:00 A.M. at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Ventura, 5654 Ralston Street, Ventura.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3150 Loma Vista Rd., Ventura.
