

It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of our loved family member on February 22, 2026 at the North Okanagan Hospice Society at age of 91. Arlene was preceded by her husband Nick Kapicki, her parents Belle and Nick Taschuk, as well as four sisters. She is survived by one daughter Tanya (née Kapicki) Chmilar and husband Gerald. A son Nicholas and wife Wendy Kapicki along with 2 daughters Ellyse (née Kapicki) and Victor Robles and Hannah Kapicki.
Arlene was born in Smoky Lake, Alberta on January 5, 1935 and attended School in the local area. After graduation she attended college and worked as an administrative assistant for The Edmonton Journal and then the Steel Company of Canada.
Arlene met Nick Kapicki and they were married in 1960. In 1967 the family moved to Vernon, BC to manage Pleasant Valley Motel and trailer court for Arlene’s Uncle. Once the motel and trailer court was sold, they moved into one of many homes Nick built. Arlene was involved with the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. She was an excellent cook especially Ukrainian food, hosting many Ukrainian Christmas dinners with family and friends. After Nick passed away Arlene stayed in the last home Nick built overlooking Kalamalka Lake, Monashee mountains, and Silver Star Mountain.
Arlene was an avid golfer and went on many trips with the girls to Spokane. She also learned to swim and water ski at the cabin Nick built on Okanagan Lake. She also skied at SilverStar with the family and later with friends.
A service will be held at Pleasant Valley Funeral Home on Friday, March 13 at 11:00am. Those who would like a viewing are able to from 10:00am to 10:45am. A reception will follow for family and friends after the service.
