Mr. Arthur Nelson Chambers

Arthur Nelson Chambers of Lumby, B.C. passed away peacefully at his home on Squaw Valley Ranch early Friday morning, March 14th, 2014. Art was 86 years old.

Art was born in Milestone, Saskatchewan on October 9th, 1927 and was the second oldest of 10 children. His family moved west to Fruitvale, B.C. before settling in Alberni on Vancouver Island. Art met Mona Vaux Paterson in Alberni

at an “End of the War” dance on May 8th, 1945 and they married on March 18th, 1947. Art and Mona would have been celebrating their 67th anniversary. Art’s career in the Canadian Armed Forces Engineering Corp took them to Calgary,

Vancouver. and Chilliwack prior to his final transfer to Vernon in 1954. Concluding that the Vernon area was where they wanted to live, Art left the Armed Forces. Using his veteran loan and lots of ambition, Art and Mona bought their first

homestead on North Fork Road in Cherryville. Art, determined to succeed, entered the forest industry attempting and learning all aspects, including logging, sawmilling and trucking. Art journeyed into what would be his longstanding

career path upon starting DCT Chambers Trucking in 1964, taking DCT to number 46 of the Top 100 Trucking companies in Canada. Although he was committed to the business, Art harbored a passion for ranching, establishing farms and ranches at North Fork Road, Cherryville, on Highway 6, Lumby, and finally, Squaw Valley Ranch at the base of Park

Mountain near Mable Lake.

Art is survived by his spouse, Mona; their five children: Dan Chambers, Kathy Deane Zimmer, Joanne Stone, David Chambers, and Doris Squair; 17 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

A memorial will be held at White Valley Community Centre, 2250 Shields Ave., Lumby, BC at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday,

March 22nd, 2014.
