She was predeceased by her husband of sixty years, Dr. Sidney Young and her beloved grandson Scott Mann. Audrey is survived by three daughters and their families: Sandra (Cal) Haverstock, Shannon Haverstock, Brennan (Sandra) Haverstock and their children Matthew and MacKenzie; Susan (Ross) Keith, Courtney Keith, Lindsay (Daniel) Torrie, Colin Keith, and Robbie Keith; Sherrie (John) Mann, Kim Mann, and Brent Mann (Lesley Frost). She is also survived by sister-in-law, Grace Cutler of Victoria and caring nephew Robert Young of Winnipeg.
Audrey was born in Ashford, Kent, England and emigrated to Saskatchewan with her parents following World War I. She grew up in Weyburn, Saskatchewan and then completed Registered Nursing requirements at Moose Jaw Union Hospital. It was there that she met and fell in love with a young doctor. They married at the outbreak of World War II and soon after Sid “shipped out” to Europe in service of the Canadian Army Medical Corps. He would not return until War’s end in 1945. He left behind his young pregnant wife. Audrey returned to Weyburn during those war years to work as a nurse and raise their daughter, Sandra.
Following Sid’s return to Canada, the family moved to Regina, where Sid began a surgical practice and Audrey went about setting up a household. In the ensuing years, the family increased by two more daughters, and Audrey immersed herself in organizing and running family life.
In her younger years, Audrey exhibited athletic abilities on the basketball court and in track and field events. She also was an excellent swimmer. As her children grew, she found more time to renew these abilities as she pursued recreational and competitive golf.
Audrey was an avid football fan and for many years held season tickets with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. In later years she never missed her team’s televised games.
Special places for Audrey included Waskesiu Lake, B Say Tah Beach, and Laguna Beach, California. She enjoyed life in the Okanagan, particularly trips to Silver Star, Osoyoos, Kalamalka Lake and the local wineries. Special times were anytimes involving her grandchildren.
A private family service will be held in Vernon. Audrey will be interred along side her husband following a private family service in Regina.
