She was born in 1940 into a large family in the Netherlands, being the 7th of 10 children.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Martin and her 5 children, Kathleen (Scott), Marcella, Paul (Jill), Joshua (Jewel) and Rebecca and grandchildren, Isaiah, Paris, Shamus, David and Azriel.
She immigrated to Canada from the Netherlands as a young girl with her family. She moved to Winnipeg at the age of 19 where she started her career as a teacher. She met and married Martin in 1964. They moved to Houston BC in 1970 where Beatrix taught at the Christian School until her third child was born. In 1972 they continued their life adventure to Vernon, BC and then on to New Zealand in 1974 and returned to Canada in 1977 with their growing family. She continued to be involved with her youngest daughter’s school and worked at the Okanagan Landing Elementary School as a school yard and bus monitor until her retirement at age 65.
She was known for her sewing, knitting and crocheting skills, and always had a project or two on the go. During her last year she crocheted many doilies and gave them to all the nurses, friends and family that she encountered on her journey. She loved her garden and her phone was filled with pictures of her flowers, which she shared with many of us.
A true Dutchman, she loved everything Dutch, especially klompendansen and the Dutch Royal family; being named after Queen Beatrix. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her and, if lucky, you have something handmade by her to cherish.
A Memorial Service will be held at Pleasant Valley Funeral Home, 4303 Pleasant Valley Road, Vernon, British Columbia, on April 24, 2026, at 1:00 pm, with a tea reception to follow.
