Bernice went to be with Jesus on April 14 2023 in her home in Vernon BC, where she lived with George, her husband of nearly 56 years. Born in Vancouver BC to Jack and Marjorie Morgan, she was raised in Richmond. She was an accomplished musician and figure skater as a girl, attending York House School and graduating from Richmond High School. But after high school, her music became more central as she continued in Piano, her passion. Married briefly after high school, she had a daughter, Judi. After a few years on their own, she met George Adams one enchanted evening in 1967 and, after whirlwind romance, they married a short five weeks later, joining her daughter with his four sons. The family became completed a year later with the arrival of everyone’s darling little sister. Living in Burnaby family of eight was active in Brentwood Park Alliance Church, with Christ at the centre of their home and hearts. Bernice was always involved in music, playing piano and organ, directing choirs and singing, devoting time and energy to all of the church music and encouraging her children’s music accomplishments as well. Bernice worked for Eaton’s Brentwood for many years once her children were in school.
After the children were grown and gone, married with families and Bernice retired, George and Bernice moved to the Sunshine Coast where they joined the Bethel Baptist community. They also spent a few months every winter as snowbirds, enjoying the warmth of the Palm Desert where they met a wonderful group of friends with whom they shared music and faith and fun for many years. Many folks remember Bernice for her musical accomplishments and her warm hospitality. Their children loved it when their parents would play together, she on piano accompanying him on violin. At their California home, they were active in a small symphony where they enjoyed so much music together once again. They were no longer able to go south after some health issues kept them in Canada, so last year they moved to Vernon where they could be closer to family. Bernice was so proud of all that she and George brought together; a beautiful family that was created through intention and hard work and so much prayer. Predeceased by their son Larry and grandson Devon, she leaves behind to grieve: her loving husband of nearly 56 years, George, along with their children Bruce Adams (Nancy), Judi Calhoun (Andy), Jeff Adams (Nadine), Ross Adams, Shelley MacDougall (Malcolm), grandchildren Sean Adams, Christina (Mark) Prachnau, Jennifer (Adam) Dormer, Michelle (Joey) Funk, David (Jenn) Adams, Morgan Calhoun, Caitlin (Matt) Holst, Jillian Calhoun, Meaghan (Taylor) Radke, Brandon (Laura) Adams, Danielle (Morgan) Shellhamer, Natalie (Perry) Harder, Crystal (Rob) Cooper, Callum MacDougall, Sheilagh (Dallas) Shirley and 35 great-grandchildren.
Celebration of Life will be held at Arbor Chapel, Valleyview Funeral Home and Cemetery 14644-72nd Avenue Surrey April 24 at 2 PM.
