It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of Darlene Scott (nee Taylor), a cherished sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, on 16 January 2026 at the age of 80. She passed peacefully after a series of illnesses.
Darlene was born in Abbotsford, British Columbia to George Taylor and Gladys Taylor (nee Talbot). She spent her formative years in the Fraser Valley, where she graduated from high school and initially worked as a bookkeeper, then as a telephone operator. An ardent lover of the outdoors and animals, she was an accomplished horsewoman, training with Morgans for a prominent farm in the area.
As a young woman, Darlene was courted by a handsome Mountie, Derold Scott, who she married in 1970. Together they built a life filled with love, humour, and adventures, including making Langley, Kitimat, and Vernon their home as Derold’s RCMP career progressed. Darlene and Derold shared a love of family, country drives, A&W drive-ins, and the outdoors.
Darlene was best known for her generosity, kindness, humour, and no-nonsense approach. She enjoyed volunteering in the community (Girl Guides of Canada, Upper Room Mission), needlecraft, and cookery. Her finest stitchery was a three-year project interpreting the RCMP crest with satin appliqué on a black velvet background. Her son-in-law and grandchildren argue that her large oatmeal chocolate chip cookies were tops!
Darlene, best known as ‘Dar’, will be deeply missed by her daughter Kirsta MacIsaac, her son Heath Scott, her son-in-law Dan, her grandchildren Nicholas and Jacquelyn, her sister Lynne Anderson, and her brother Gord Taylor. She is predeceased by her parents George and Gladys Taylor, her brother Barry Taylor, and her husband Derold who she looked forward to being reunited with in spirit.
Darlene’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff at Bastion Place in Salmon Arm, Dr. Mandreck (retired), Dr. Levins, and Dr. Osmond.
A private family celebration of life is planned, as per the wishes of Darlene. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the University of British Columbia Woodward Lab – Cognitive Neuroscience of Schizophrenia Program (CBN 10816 1779 RR0001) at https://donate.give.ubc.ca/page/68038/donate/1?transaction.dirgift=Cognitive%20Neuroscience%20of%20Schizophrenia%20Program%20Fund%20G1153
