Joyce Edith Ripley Mclennan

Especially grieving are her immediate family: her daughters Sheryl Wynne (Rick) and Glenne, her sons Roderick (Margie) and Ian and her son-in-law Wayne Richardson. Ian’s twin, Sheryl Richardson, predeceased Joyce by more than four years. Joyce grieved her untimely loss of her youngest daughter every day for the rest of her life.

Joyce moved to Vernon from Calgary in 1970. During a ski week at Silver Star a local realtor convinced Allan to look at a chalet he had listed for $8,000. Allan made a ridiculous counter, mainly to be left alone. It was accepted.

One thing led to another and Joyce became a Vernonite. It was a most fortuitous happenstance, especially because the ski week was supposed to be at Todd Mountain until it was rained out.

Joyce loved living in Vernon. She loved the hills and mountains, the valleys and lakes, the size of the town, the activities it offered, the classic season and, especially, the friendliness of the people and the fact that people from all walks of life socialized together, volunteered together, played together and built a community together.

Joyce enjoyed joining her friends in skiing, lake activities, badminton, golf and, of course, bridge. The weekly session with the good friends in her bridge club gave Joyce great pleasure.

For the last few weeks, Joyce was a resident of Noric House. Her family is grateful to the staff and, especially, the care-givers who carry out duties professionally yet in a very personal way.

A memorial event will be held at a later date.
