It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joyce Rowena “Rena” Ransom—our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished companion. Born in Cloan, Saskatchewan, Rena was predeceased by her husbands Merle Johnson, Bob Irwin, and Wally Ransom, as well as her youngest son Mark Ransom. She is lovingly remembered by her sons Merle (Sandra) and Malcolm (Rhondda); grandchildren Sharon (Ken), Daryl, Blake (Theresa), and Claire (Grahame); great-grandchildren Vanden, Mac, Zade, Roman, Tori, and Ivy; and her devoted partner Dale Lovell. Rena lived a full and adventurous life. She traveled the world to places such as Alaska, Yuma, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, and even camped solo across Canada—always seeking new experiences and embracing the journey. Her working years began at her parents’ hotel in Dorintosh, Saskatchewan, followed by a role as a telephone operator in Meadow Lake. In 1967, she moved to Vernon with Wally and their three sons, where she embraced life on a small farm. In her late 70s, Rena took up golfing and proudly achieved two hole-in-ones. She enjoyed bowling, fishing, boating, and was a passionate painter. Her love for gardening, cooking, and baking was matched by her occasional flair for carpentry. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Polson Extended Care Home for their compassion and kindness to Rena. A private celebration of Rena’s life will be held next spring, surrounded by family and close friends, to honor her memory and the joy she brought to all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, or Diabetes Canada in Rena’s memory.
